Being a University Department, it is mainly involved in higher education (BS, MS, and PhD) and scientific research. Both activities are often carried out cooperating with local governments, research institutions and state agencies, both at national and international scale.

Members of the staff were actively involved in EU research projects, such as the Interreg III B CADSES CADSEALAND (and, in the past, Pace, Epoch, Teslec etc.).
